ADVOCATE REGINALD ASHFORD KC

Senior Counsel · Constitutional Law | Administrative Law | Judicial Review Member of the Cape Bar | Took silk 1999

PROFESSIONAL PROFILE

Reginald Ashford is a senior member of the Cape Bar with thirty-six years of practice in constitutional, administrative and public law.

His work spans constitutional litigation in the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Court of Appeal, judicial review of executive action, and advisory work for institutions of state and major regulated entities. He has appeared in matters concerning the separation of powers, the limits of administrative discretion, and the constitutionality of primary legislation.

He took silk in 1999 and has since led teams in many of the leading public law cases of the past two decades. He continues to act in matters of constitutional principle, frequently on a pro bono basis where the issues warrant it.

Outside court he has served on advisory panels concerned with the reform of administrative procedure and on commissions of inquiry into the conduct of public office. He lectures occasionally at the University of Cape Town and the University of the Western Cape.
